Design
We designed this knob for the knob competition but hope it is also useful as a base for remixing since the hexagonal knob is just a placeholder for whatever knob you want to use! Knobs and screws to keep them in place are used widely. But in fact screws are actually not the optimal solution for keeping a knob in place - all tension and pressure when in use is just focused on the very little screw. That often leads to wear and also screws breaking out. Therefore we came up with this proposal to have a screwless knob design that is still “bolted through” but does spread the forces on a bigger area than just a screw. Abve that it is simple, fast to print (without supports) and works with just a zip lock through any existing (and possibly worn out) screw hole in your cabinte, locker, drawer,…
Construction
Both parts, the inside and outside have a small internal duct through which the 2,5 / 200 zip lock is inserted. The parts kind of lock / fixate the front of a cabinet, drawer, etc. between them through just one hole…
Files
- nologo_design_knobonk.gcode - Ready to print on a MK3/S/+
- nologo_design_knobonk.3mf - All parts and slicing settings
- nologo_design_knobonk_inside.stl - The inside part for remixing
- nologo_design_knobonk_outside.stl - The outside part for remixing
Slicing, Printing
The only recomendation here is to print with 4 perimeters, 0% infill and please turn supports off since these would fill the ducts and render them unuseable.
Assembly
There is a pic uploaded for each step:
- Insert the zip lock through the inner part
- Push it into the inner part as far as possible
- Push the zip lock though the hole in your drawer, cabinet, front,…
- Insert the zip lock into the outer part and push completely through
- Push the zip lock back through the hole in your drawer, cabinet, front,…
- Push the zip lock back into the inner part and through until it comes out of the locking part of the zip lock (already in place - step 2)
- Tighten the zip lock strongly and cut of the surplus length…
And there you are with your screw free knob! Happy remixing, printing, assembling!
