When I was a kid I had numerous joysticks for my home computers. I decided to design one in the style of the 80's and here it is! Enjoy, mess with it and improve it if you like. Please be kind and upload photo's of any you make yourself. I'd love to hear from you if it floats your boat.

Notes:
The bushing should be printed in TPU or other such bendy squashy wonder or your stick wont waggle and you won't be a joystick juggler.
The microswitch screws should be No4 x 3/4" self tapping pan head pozi screws and the other screws should be No6 x 1/2". It would be of benefit if the four screws holding the stick pivot block on also have an M3.5 form G washer behind them as the loading here is a little high. There should be a circlip fitted to the 8mm shaft by carefully making a groove as per the FreeCAD model. Use steel, don't try to print that or it'll snap at the first heated moment of Daley Thompson's Decathlon or Speedball 2 tornament.
Wiring details for various systems will be uploaded as and when I get time. In the meantime, if you want to get started you should google it or check your manual for pinouts if you have one. Don't forget to either tie-wrap the cable or put a knot in it (a-la 80's electronics) to stop it pulling out of the bottom shell.
Post-Printing
You will need to trim out some of the print-aids with a sharp scalpel or suchlike. These were added to the model to make it print without supports. Also, the fire buttons and fire button holes will need their sliding surfaces sanding nice and smooth to prevent sticking, unless you print the buttons on a resin printer.
How I Designed This
So, There was a Drunken Idea.
I sat down, craft beer in hand and started with the switch datasheet. Then I proceeded to design the whole model around the switches and other materials I had on hand.
I took care to consider the 80's aesthetic, cable routing and printability of each part as I went.
Note, this is a very organically designed model with some issues but it's free and open.
