Since I have multiple 2kg spools that do not fit in any Ikea spool holder box, I decided to go with a ceiling mounted approach.

I wanted to not only hang the spool there, but also secure it from falling down. Therefore I added a threaded cover you can screw on (but dont have to, I highly recommend it though).

To be able to also use smaller spools I made the handle exchangeable and therefore modelled it as a separate part with a thread.

The handle has an outer diameter of 32mm and was designed to perfectly match the great spool adapters from wstein https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:735213 which makes the spool turn extremely smooth (I am using the spool_adapter_32_53_right_v2).

If you want to improve something, the whole work was created with onshape and is publicly available (link below)

Print Instructions

Use at least 20% infill, especially if you plan to mount heavier spools. To get the threads right I would recomment to print with 0.2mm layer height. In terms of material I printed in PLA, but I guess PETG would we even more suitable.
