Have you ever had a tough time demonstrating the height of one of your 3D prints in a photograph? Print a Ruler for Scale! These simple rulers mark millimeters by increments of 50. With the separately printed base, they stand vertically to easily show the approximate height of your models. Base has a slit so the edge of the ruler sits on the same surface as the printed models.
Included lengths: 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 mm. All rulers fit the same base. Note that the longer rulers may not balance while standing up in the base, but a bit of tape on the back of the base is enough to hold it in place for a quick photo (as I know from experience).
Disclaimer: Even though they were designed with precision, these rulers should not be used for any important, accurate measuring 😉.
3D Printing Settings
Rulers are 30 mm wide. Each is 2 mm thick and the decoration is 1 mm thick. Lengths are 20 mm longer than the highest value marking. Tip: Rotate longer rulers about the z-axis to fit on the print bed diagonally. See photos.
I used dual extrusion, but single extrusion with a filament swap works too. Or print it all in one color (see photo for example).
Base is 33 x 30 x 30 mm and it has some extra room for sliding the rulers in. If it is too tight, you could try scaling the base up slightly to increase the gaps.
Rulers should be printed at 100% scale.
