Personalise your own tic tac toe by printing buttons of your choice and glue them in place of the 'x' and '0'!
Customise by importing your own symbols from DFX files - the festive theme included here has a cane and christmas tree.
Print in place, no loose parts, easy tolerances, no supports required (internal supports provided in the design).
The three possible states on the board are empty, nought, or cross. These are available on a rotating triangle, that almost fully covers the face of the enclosing box. The noughts and crosses are clearly visible, being cut out from the triangle. Alternatively, print the noughts and crosses separately in different colours, then glue in place.
Several style options are available: print the symbols as 'x', '+', DXF file inputs, or as buttons. The 'x' and '+' symbols are the same, just rotated. The DFX file input allows you to import any (properly scaled in mm) symbols from DXF files. The button option 'b' makes empty buttons on the triangle faces, so you can print any 20 mm diameter button and glue in the holes provided. The emojis provided in this project is a remix from https://www.printables.com/model/122292-buttons-emoji, scaled to 20 mm and with the noses filled in.
Four sets of print files are provided. Open the 3mf files and separate to print with different colours. The 'assembly' part is full 3x3 array, the ‘cell’ part is the unit cell used to construct the set of nine.
- +_assembly.3mf uses the plus character for the cross.
- x_assembly.3mf uses the X character for the cross.
- f_assembly.3mf uses a sugar candy and Christmas tree from DFX file.
- b_assembly.3mf uses buttons (emoji supplied) but use your own!
The parametric cadquery design to allow scaling for different sized models.
The rotating triangle has a cylindrical hole, rotating around a triangular axis fixed to the enclosing box. The triangular axis provides for steep printing angles requiring less internal support structure and creates an open volume to house the loose support material (it stays inside).
After printing the triangles are still fixed by internal supports. Carefully rotate the triangle in each cell to break the supports, and turn around several times, until it rotates freely.
Print in any material. PETG requires more force than PLA to break the internal supports.
Update 20221226: I discovered a similar design on thangs. My design is original, inspired by a wooden product I saw on Alibaba (not a remix of someone else's design). See the other design here: https://thangs.com/designer/3dprintingworld/3d-model/Tic%2520Tac%2520Toe-242207
