This Chrismas ornament is a reference to 20th century composer Dmitri Shostakovich's famous DSCH motif. DSCH comes from the names of the notes when written in German musical notation, and it served as his musical signature, so to speak. He used it in several of his works, most notably in his 8th string quartet.
Even if you don't understand the reference or you don't listen to Shostakovich's music, it's still a nice music-themed ornament you can hang on your tree.
