This magnetic fitting is made to universally connect to my tools using some printed adapters to my 4" dust collection system.

Print Settings:

Print using PLA or PETG with supports as needed, in the defaulted orientation.

Additional Hardware:

Hose Adapter
  • 15mm by 3mm magnets x 8
  • superglue
  • hose clamps
  • 4" hose (but if you have a dust collecter, you likely already have this)
Jointer Adapter
2.5" Tablesaw Adapter
  • 15mm by 3mm magnets x 8
  • superglue
  • hose clamps
  • 2.5" hose
Router Fence Adapter
  • 15mm by 3mm magnets x 8
  • superglue
  • M5 nuts x 4
  • M5 bolts x 4 (length varies depending on your router fence)
  • M5 or ¼"20 bolts and nuts x 2 for the top guard (length depending on your fence)
  • silicone or caulking (optional)
Planer Adapter
Dust Seperator (fittings for trash can)
  • A trash can with a sturdy lid, or a plywood lid
  • Hose clamps
  • 4" hose
  • 4" PVC (optional)
  • Toggle clamps (or some other way to secure the lid to the trashcan)
  • M5 bolts and nuts (depending on options selected)
  • (optional) Compresible weather stripping to make airtight seal

Assembly:

Magnets (all adapters)
  • Glue 8 magnets that are 15mm x 3mm into each of the slots.
  • Be sure to alternate the polarity of the magnets in each slot, to ensure these fittings will attach to any of the adapters easily.
  • You can use my model of a magnet placer to ensure the polarity of the magnet as you place them: https://www.printables.com/model/358926-magnet-placer-parametric

Dust Seperator
  1. IN fitting (saw dust enters here)
    • There are two versions of this, one version mates with 4" PVC cut at a 30 degree angle, using 2 M5 bolts with nuts, and uses less plastic.
    • The second version is larger, but allows for a 4" flexible hose to be clamped to it using a hose clamp.
  2. OUT fitting (to the dust collector)
    • There is only 1 option for this fitting, but you are able to use either 4" PVC with M5 bolts or a flexible hose with hose clamp.
    • Alternatively, you could print a second “IN” fitting and position it opposite to the other fitting.
  3. FLANGE (mounting on the side of a dust collection cart)
    • This accepts 4" PVC on the inside of the flange, and 4" flexible hose on the outside. Provides a solid mount point for the hose outside of a cart or other form of box / case.
  4. COUPLER transition from PVC to flexible hose
    • Print this if you need to transition from PVC to flexible hose at any point in your system.

  • With your needed parts printed, you'll need a plywood circle to cover your trash can lid, and a way to secure it tightly to the trash can itself. I used a second plywood ring attached to the trashcan itself, that I mounted some toggle clamps onto.
  • Cut holes in the plywood circle top to allow for appropriate airflow into the trashcan, and mount your fittings to the trash can to create a spiral inside the trashcan. Use toggle clamps or whatever other method to hold the top tightly to the trashcan (you could use compresible door / window seals to create an airtight seal).

Use:

Hose Adapter
  • Use a hose clamp to secure the 4" hose onto the fitting, and then simply move it to each of your tools adapters.
Jointer
  • Remove stock bolts and attach this adapter onto the jointer.
  • Use the 4" Magnetic Dust Collection Fitting to quickly attach and detach your dust collection hose.
Tablesaw
  • Drill or cut open a hole just large enough for the flange to fit through (see pictures for reference).
  • Attach 2.5" hose to table saw, and the other end to the adapter.
  • Use the 4" Magnetic Dust Collection Fitting to quickly attach and detach your dust collection hose.
Router Fence
  • Attach two wooden “ribs” to your fence that will rest on either side of the adapter, and aid in keeping the fence 90 degrees from the table.
  • Drill 2 holes in either “rib” using the drill template to allow for an M5 bolt to pass through and secure the assembly.
  • Additionally you can and silicone or caulking to the mating surfaces of the print and fence to create a more air tight fitting.
  • Use the 4" Magnetic Dust Collection Fitting to quickly attach and detach your dust collection hose.
Planer
  • Use two M5 bolts to attach the printed adapter to the fitting on the Dewalt DW-734 planer.
  • Use the 4" Magnetic Dust Collection Fitting to quickly attach and detach your dust collection hose.
Dust Seperator
  • This seperator should be placed in line between your dust collector and tool. This will prevent the majority of the larger chips from entering the dust collector, by trapping them in the trashcan seperator.

I'm working on making a few additional adapters as well:
  • Floor vacuum (In Progress)
  • WEN Oscilating belt/spindle sander (In Progress)
