All of you know this situation: you printed your favorite 3D benchy and want to take a cool picture. You have your cam handy but &$§@**!!!! Why do I need to unscrew all the quick release plates? After roughly one or two hours of screwing, you realize it's all over and time to just print without documentation.
It doesn't have to be like that. Print your adapter today and enjoy the satisfaction of quickly changing cams.
Tools:
- TX8 screwdriver (main tripod screws)
- TX20 screwdriver (main ball screw)
- M6 Thread Cutter
Material:
Gear I use:
- Manfrotto PIXI EVO*
- Canon EOS R5* + RF 70-200f2.8*
- Wera Kraftform TX screwdrivers*
- Ruko thread cutters*
- Loctite 243 thread lock*
Steps:
- Print the model with 1000% infill, support, 0,1mm layer height and preferably carbon fibre or PC (blend). If not available, use PETG. The wall thickness is small and it has to hold up a lot of force.
- Remove support, double check the hole tolerance (6,0mm, no space!)
- Unscrew main 3x TX8 screws
- Remove housing, legs and tripod ring

- Unscrew next 3x TX8 screws
- Remove ball housing
- Unscrew main TX20 screw
- Cut thread in ball. It's a 5,2mm core hole. Not ideal, but with Loctite good enough. Use lubricant when cutting and clean with acetone afterwards

- Screw everything back in place. Watch out for dirt, oil or Loctite on the ball and housing. Don't use acetone here! If you screwing the black screws back in, try to turn them counter-clockwise till you feel a “click”. This is the start of your old thread. Thus, you don't cut a second thread into the hole.
- Fin.

This was designed for the Manfrotto MSQ6T as there is a notch in the middle to prevent rotation. If you need a different one, drop me a line with the dimensions and a picture and I add yours.
