This is a formicarium, or an ant farm.
This particular project was a test to see if it was possible to make a 45° angled nest.
Everything is printable apart for the acrylic glass which is 2.5mm thick.
You can link this nest to other nest with 11mm transparent tubing.
To assemble the nest you will also need many 3m bolts. You will need diffrent length of bolts, from 4mm to 16mm. I recommend buying an assortment of bolts. Be careful, if the nest is badly assembled you will have ants in your house ;) No need for nuts, it bolts directly in the ABS.
You will also need a medium to put in the water reservoirs. Cotton works best and if your species is not to small the grid pattern should allow you to swap it periodically without evasions.
For best results I printed it in PETG, no water problem and relatively robust.
I included some files witch are patterns for cutting the acrylic and make holes in the right positions
Disclaimer : Finally my ants (Lasius niger) didn't like this nest and I put them back in their old nest. I think the hygrometry was not right and maybe they didn't like the 45° surfaces. I would recommend to sand those surfaces to give your ants some grip ;)
