What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world
In essence, it's a worldwide treasure hunt. Containers range from the size of your fingernail to the size of a caravan. Inside you'll find a piece of paper to sign and sometimes you'll find goodies to trade.
Why remix into a Geocache?
Since getting a 3D printer, I've discovered how well it complaments other hobbies such as Geocaching. I've been learning little by little how to use Tinkercad, and have been making geocaches out of other's creations! Hopefully by putting these geocaches out into the wild for others to find, it'll attract more people to the 3D printing community too!
Most of the time people find caches made from tupperware or nano caches (tiny magnetic annoying things), and love finding something a bit different.
On all of my geocache listings, I have included some brief information about 3D printing.
Info about this model
I firstly removed the existing hanging spot for the original Melt face to make it a solid model then added my own hole at the top for hanging via paracord around a tree. I also created two horizontal holes in the model which will allow 3-4mm width paracord to go through to secure the face to a tree properly. Finally, using my geocache cap and plug remix, I hollowed out a small section of the head to hold the geocache log. It should fit a nano cache which would incerase the durability of the log.
Lessons Learned
I ‘eyeballed’ the holes in the side of the model which was a mistake. I seen them and thought ‘yup that looks big enough’ but in heindsight I should have made them a little larger to cator to other types of paracord.
