Design

Once I finally received notice my LTT Screwdriver shipped I went looking for a nice case / organizer for it and wasn't able to find anything that met my requirements. So I took the Rugged Box (Parameterizable) from Whity and the LTT Screwdriver Mockup from MiniMadRyan and made a case for my screwdriver and all the bits I ordered (60 additional ones). I tried to optimize the size of the case and still hold all the bits that I wanted along with a magnet to ensure they don't come loose later.

Printing and Assembly

I printed everything quick and fast at .3 draft specs for the Prusa MK3S. The screwdriver is a tight fit, and PETG can scratch the “soft” handle of the screwdriver. If you print at a finer detail level that may not be a problem at all. However I would highly suggest printing the insert at TPU as this will allow a better fit and without the worry of scratching the handle at all.

The bits are all held in with both friction force and magnets. The magnets are circular 8mm x 3mm that I sourced from amazon. With PETG they were very easy to assemble, but with TPU I found it wasn't as easy as they kept jumping out of their holes. I found putting the bits in first, then adding the magnets made it possible to put them all in without them jumping out to their magnet buddy next door. The friction force for the bits on my printer in TPU (un-tuned) is pretty tight but I realize it will open up over time and I can still pull them out fine.

I do not use the seal at all and I cannot confirm nor deny if it will enhance the ability to water tighten it or not. The fitment of the screwdriver is very tight and it may not fit depending on your printing parameters.

Additional Requirements for assembly:

  • 60x Circular Magnets 8mm x 3mm
  • 6x M3 x 25mm Screws

Variations

Only variation I provided is the lid. One has the LTT Logo in it for MMU2S printing, while the other is solid. The solid one is labeled as “LTT Case - Lid - No Logo.3mf”.

Future Work

  • Insert with fewer bits held (if desired by the people)
  • Playing with the bit size to make it a little bit easier to pull out (if I struggle to pull bits out).
  • Optimizing magnet size for TPU
  • Optimizing screwdriver size
