A friend wanted a way to hang a few tape measures around his shop, so I came up with this design. It's simple, but effective. I used two drywall screws to attach it, and their heads sit flush, but use whatever works for you. It's about 12 mm (½") tall (from the mounting surface to the outer face), 19 mm (¾") from the bottom to the top, and overall it's about 70 mm (2 ¾") long. The gap for the tape measure clip is about 40 mm (1 ½") wide.
2026-09-14 Update: I added a version designed to hold a Sharpie and a pencil rather than two pencils. I've uploaded the STL and F3D files with both pan-head and flat-head mounting options.
2023-02-07 Update: Since I usually try to keep a pencil near my tape measure, I added some length to the holder and added holes to accommodate two pens or pencils. Files uploaded.
