Introduction
I currently use the Anycubic RERF (Resin Exposure Range Finder) method to dial in my resin materials, as my Anycubic M3 does not support variable layer time through UVTools, RERF is the next best thing for me. I was not happy with the current offering of test parts and how they are used in harmony with the RERF system, in particular with how the individual parts are labelled.
Other Test Models
The Ameralabs Town is fantastic, but every attempt I have seen of trying to label them does not seem to work well. I tried one that printed a raft and had a number on the raft, unfortunately when I tried to print them with some high viscosity resin most of the rafts broke off, leaving me with a combination puzzle piece/guessing game.
The Siraya Tech test model is also fantastic, but there are no versions that have labels or versions that I can modify to have labels. In addition they are a bit on the large side in order to fit 8 of them on the build plate and take a bit too long to print for a range finding exercise. This is a great piece to print in order to assess the overall health of your machine and slicing tool, but not ideal for the RERF exercise.
The Photonsters Validation Matrix is perfect in terms of complexity and build time, but is too large to fit 8 of them on a build plate, if anyone wants labelled versions of this part let me know.
The test part that Anycubic provides as part of it's RERF file has a bunch of information on it, but the features used for checking the exposure are way too small and not clear enough for me to use reliably.
Proposed Test Model
With those issues in mind I then created my own bare bones resin exposure test piece, using some of the features from the Siraya Tech test model, this model utilises a small amount of resin and print time in order to get a good first result.
The geometric features that I have utilised include:
- Exposure test
- Circular bosses and holes
- Cruciform bosses and holes
- Debossed text
I have attached the 8 labelled test pieces in a single .stl file in the correct arrangement for the Anycubic Photon M3, please be aware that if you are using a different printer the correct arrangement may well be different.
In addition, I have also included the 8 individual tokens as well as a .step file so you can make any changes that you desire.
