I tinkered this Valentine's Day, Wedding, Birth Celebration occasion box to contain and protect a single flower print with stem.
Kudos to lytta for their “Spiral Vase Rose” https://www.printables.com/social/112634-lytta for a rose; it inspired me to design the box to house my print of their design. Kudos also to Silver for their design of the organic rose stem https://www.printables.com/social/141122-silfer which I printed, glued together, and trimmed to fit in my 100mm tall box.
The 56x56x100mm inner box with accented corners was simple to size and then print for my assembled rose and stem. Others could easily resize to fit their need.
The 60x60x80mm outer box simply slides down over the inner box to house and protect the printed flower and stem inside. I wanted the fit of the two boxes together to be loose. If it is too tight, separating the top from the bottom may damage the box, or be frustrating to open.
To keep the printed flower and stem upright and stable inside the box, I tinkered a simple curved piece with a hole in the middle of it sized to allow the printed stem to pass trough it. This piece fits (friction fit) into the bottom of the inner box. It holds the fragile stem in place and the assembled flower and stem upright inside the box. I feared that too much shaking of the loose, finished flower and stem inside could damage the print. The holder inside the box prevents the flower from being loose.
The Heart Topper was an add-in thought to help communicate the occasion, in case this is to be a gift or memento. Since there may be other occasions for this box, I did not try make it integrated within the print. It can simply be glued to the top surface of the outer box, if desired, to serve as a handle/knob to lift the outer box to reveal the contents inside.
My prints were made using PETG which I felt added a little more strength to the vase mode sides. The flexibility and strength of the material are great, and help preserve a semi-transparent delicate feel and look to the project.
