Some Prusa spools might be a bit too wide, especially for multicolour printing, but others have had good success with stock spools. If you are running into clearance issues, or just want to load refills onto Prusa spools, these take the width from 70-71mm to 66-67mm which is just inside the recommended width in the book,
0.4mm layers on 0.6mm nozzle here. Minimalist design, It takes about 13 meters of filament to print one. .step/.f3d files to mod as required.
Be careful removing the cardboard hub! It is thick, and mounted fairly tightly. I recommend a handsaw of some kind to cut the the two sides in half, then rip pieces of cardboard off until they come loose. If you have to use a knife, please go slowly and cautiously.
This hub is desigend to be snug enough to stay in place, but you can still pull it apart with some fingers and force near the center.
If you tend to be a tight rewinder, you might want to glue the hub in, just to be sure.
