A clip for using Selectric type balls with broken/missing retaining clips. Use the tall one! It's much easier to handle.

The second-generation balls are notorious for having the plastic clip break off the metal axle. These balls can still be used, you just have to tear the plastic top off the ball and use a clip like this or the wire from inside the cap. Be careful to not move the element too much while you're putting it on—tilt or rotate it too much and the metal tapes that control the ball position can come off their pulleys.
Best printed on a raft to avoid elephant foot, as the fit is very snug.
I'll probably delete the original short one. The taller one is much better. :)
