Howdy fellow geeks and nerds! Pencils and books always fillmy heart with joy, so that's what I used for the central design elements of this trophy.
Customizing:
Open the attached .scad file in OpenSCAD (open source and free - https://openscad.org/) to customize the trophy recipient, prize/place won, and the number listed on the three pencils. You should only need to use the customizer dialog on the right hand side of the screen, and not the Editor (see images). Once complete, press f6 to render, then save as an STL.
CAVEAT: after a week of learning how to program in OpenSCAD, it turns out that my model (even after analyzing and updating it several times) is not a closed mesh, so the model won't render with the customization text in OpenSCAD. (if you can fix that, or tell me how, 50 points for Ravenclaw!) This means that you'll have to combine the model STL (included) with the customization STL (that you create in OpenSCAD) in your slicing program. I've included a infographic to help.
Printing:
I printed my trophy on my Anycubic Vyper with yellow PLA+ on a 60C heated bed at 80mm/s and 200C, with no supports or bed adhesion in approximately 11 hours. In Cura, I did select the experimental option to make overhangs printable. The small star on the ribbon is the only part that didn't print well.
Post-Printing:
I sanded the points of the pencils, and the surface of the text on the model. To give the trophy some character, I used acrylic paint markers to add color to the model.
I hope you enjoy this model as much as I do!
