Luigi lamp backlit using an LED strip or whatever other type of small light source you prefer.
Each color is printed separately and assembled, no multi-material printer needed. No mid-print manual color changes either. I used PLA, you can use whatever type you feel like I suppose.
Each part is organized by color, and identified by name/location (left/right is from your perspective, not Luigi's). Once printed, each colored panel will need to be glued onto the frame (using your choice of glue, I opted for low-temp hot glue), and your light of choice will need to be attached/inserted. (I would recommend attaching the Tan/skin piece first, as the 'Black - Ear, Left', and ‘Black - Eye, left’ need to be then glued/attached to the front of it, allowing the rest of the left eye pieces to be glued to the rear). There is an opening on the bottom of the casing to route the cord, the base also has a routing path. (****All color panels should be attached to the rear of the frame, except the ‘Green - Hat emblem, L’ which will need to be attached on top of the ‘White - Hate emblem, surround’ in the L-shaped recess).
The file ‘White - Diffuser' is optional. It is intended to be attached/glued behind the colored panels to help diffuse the light, and/or to reduce the brightness if your lights are too bright for your intended use (the LED strip I used seemed to have a small flicker when it was turned down to it's dimmest setting, so I added the ‘White -Diffuser’ so I could use the LED at a brighter setting, but still have the light be dim enough to be used as a nightlight for my son). You can add more than one diffuser if you need.
Some of the pieces may fit pretty close together (like the pieces for the eyes), but are not designed to be flush together, so those of you with less-than-perfectly-tuned printers should be able to do this without hassle.
The depth of the casing was a perfect fit for the LED strip I used, but it can be scaled in the Z direction if you need a bit more room for your application.
The colored panels are 0.6mm thick (except ‘Green - Hat emblem, L’, which is 0.4mm). 0.2mm layer thickness will do fine, 0.3mm would probably be fine too, do whatever feels right. I did increase my infill/perimeter overlap to 80% as one of my filaments was consistently leaving gaps that the light showed through. While the diffuser will help with that, I wanted better results. Again, do whatever feels right.
The following link is the LED strip I used, but there are hundreds of others that would likely work just as well.
