So, I came up with a thermal probe design that can be attached right to your 3D printer's nozzle. It lets you get precise temperature measurements in the heated chamber, which can lead to better calibration and way better print quality. I originally made this thing 'cause I thought my printer's temp sensor was messed up, but it turned out to be something else. Still, I think this could help someone out there who's struggling with calibration and print quality issues.
MATERIALS
- Standard 0.4 millimeter nozzle
- K type thermocouple sensor
- M3 setscrew
- Drill bits (3mm and 2.5mm)
- M3 tap
- Pliers

INSTRUCTIONS
- Take the standard 0.4mm nozzle and insert it into a drill press.

- Using a 3mm drill bit, drill a hole straight through the center of the nozzle.

- Take one of the six sides of the nozzle and drill a 2.5mm hole in the middle of it.

- Using an M3 tap, make a thread in the hole.

- Insert the K type thermocouple sensor into the nozzle and secure it with an M3 setscrew.

- Use pliers to carefully bend the thermocouple wires into a U shape so that the tip of the probe is pointing towards the nozzle's opening.

- Insert the probe into the 3D printer's nozzle opening and secure it in place with the setscrew.

- Use the device to measure the temperature inside the 3D printer's heated chamber.
