This is a Peltier based cooler for a 40W CO2 Laser, I wanted a compact and easy to build cooler for my laser system so i designed this cooler in stages, with the final stage being the automation stage.

will need for base:

  • 4 - 12706 Peltier devices
  • 1- PC radiator of 240mm length
  • either use 2-120 mm fans or 3-80mmfans with supplied adatper
  • 3-40x80mm water blocks
  • 1-PC water cooling filter
  • 1-PC pump with reservoir
  • appropriate sized silicone tubing for laser/radiator etc.
  • 1-12v 240W power supply MINIMUM- Larger Watt Preferred
  • water tight container/tank for laser buffer water tank
  • 12"x12" (300x300 mm) mounting plate (wood/plexi/etc) for active cooler
  • short screws for mounting
  • 5mm all thread for mounting Peltier's together
  • Can use assembler to assemble Acrylic into a tank-makes 90* angles {don't have DXF files for tank-they are corrupt unfortunately)

for Automation:

  • water flow sensor (can be installed on Arduino if desired)
  • 1 Arduino nano
  • 1 PCB (from gerber files)
  • 2 - SRD-05V Relay
  • 2- 1k resistors
  • 1-4.7k resistor
  • 1-DS18B20 Water temp sensor(water tight version)
  • 2n2222 transistor
  • 2-diodes (1n4007)
  • 3- 2 pin screw terminals
  • Optional (1- 4x2.54 connector(OLED) & 1-3x2.54 connector(Sensor))
  • OLED .96" I2C
  • 2- 2x6 mm screw
  • 2-2.5x6 mm screw
  • 4-3x6mm screws
  • 4 magnets 6mm OD x 2mm tall
  • acrylic sheet for laser cut cover 5x5" (120mmx120mm) 1.5-2mm thick {can get away with smaller but this gives extra}

these lists are not all encompassing, you will need misc nuts and bolts as well, you may need fittings for your PC pump or laser pump connections, you will also need wire for all the connections (check AWG vs amp rating to ensure our wire is big enough- each Peltier can draw UP TO 6 AMPS @ 12V, This means at max, 4 peltiers @ 12V & 6 AMPs is 288 Watts add in pumps, fans you can easily see 300+ Watts (300w / 12v = 25 Amps- Wire accordingly)

WIRE AT YOUR OWN RISK-IF UNSURE GET A PROFESSIONAL-ELECTRIC SHOCK AND FIRES ARE A REAL DANGER.  You should Consider an inline fuse as well- fuses can prevent unwanted heat generation in the event of a short.
