INTRO:

It is Spring and with lambing going on it is the season for bottle lambs.  Bottle lambs are lambs for one reason or another  can not get their milk from mom and thus need to be fed a milk replacer.  Bottle feeding time can range from 6 weeks to 12 weeks(3 times a day) depending on when they get weaned. This is a bottle holder for Ideal(https://www.neogen.com/categories/veterinary-instruments/ideal-lamb-kid-bottle/) bottles.  But can be adapted for using Coke or Pepsi bottles. Set the bottle in, clip the holder onto the cattle panel and go about more farm chores :) It is made to fit on a standard US cattle, hog, or sheep panel with 3/16" wire. However, I am sure it could be use on wire panels. I don't know what the SI measurement on any of the metric panels would be. So, if anybody has that wire diameter let me know and I will add SI(metric) bottle holder.  Anyways, these are around $9-11 US dollars online NOT including the shipping and none of the local farm stores around me had any. So, me and the kids designed this up.  They got a lesson in design thinking and quick interations of prototypes. This is version 7 of the holder there were new prototypes everyday to try and interate on.

ASSEMBLY & USE:

The part are printed using Prusament Matte Black PETG with a layer height .3mm on draft mode with a perimeter of 2 and an infill of 20%.  I have attached the slicer print file that was used. You can check the print orientation with that or just print it using that.

Check the files for the quanities of parts needed.

Print time for the whole unit was around 6 hours and cost was computed to be around $4.50 US dollars

After printing see this video for assembly:

IMPROVEMENTS:

Near term

  • Going to reduce total material used in the main bottle holder. It could be optimized.
  • If anybody has any feedback on design impovements let me know.
  • BTW the lambs names are Loki(black and white) and Milkshake the(brown and white).
