This is a mini formicarium for a starting colony which is still in the test tube.
The connection is for a 14/10mm hose. All you need is some cotton, a 16mm test tube for water and a Pringles lid. The lid fits pretty tight to prevent ants escaping.
Put some cotton in the opening for the water test tube and push it through to the other
side. You may need some tweezers. Then put a litte more cotton on the bottom. Close the test
tube with cotton and let it stand over. So you can turn the tube upside down without leaking
and the cotton in the formicarium soaks from the cotton in the tube.
I used a 14/10mm hose connection, because ants got shipped in very different sized
test tubes. So you can use your own test tube → hose adapter.
As soon as all ants moved to the formicarium, you can disconnect the original test tube
and close the connector with cotton or a printed plug. As soon as the colony gets bigger, you
can use the hose again to connect it to a bigger formicarium.
My print settings (with a 0.4mm nozzle):
- Layer height .2mm
- 3 perimeters
- 15% rectilinear infill
- Just a litte support material under the connector.
