No, it's not a spacecraft ;-)
EWI - electronic wind instrument project shell/case/housing
This can be a shell for your individual EWI project. There are several different EWI projects out there on the internet for inspiration. I designed this shell for my project. I wanted to have the look and feel of a real instrument. You will find the OpenSCAD file attached. It is the first prototype. The OpenSCAD file is not optimized and it behaves really slow while rendering.
Here is a list of the guts i have started with:
- countersunk screws 5x2.8 for putting it together
- pan head screws for the air chamber
- screws for the thumb rest
- 30cm 3mm diameter smooth steel rod for the levers hinging
- several 3mm washers or 3d printed spacers for spacing out the key levers
- 10cm 5mm OD tubing (like brass, etc) for the drain system
- hook-and-loop strap
- ring screw with washer and nut
- silicon hose 5mm ID for the drain system
- black cherry keyboard switches for the keys
- three 6x6x7 mm tactile switches
- OLED i2c display
- two or three i2c I/O extender e.g. PCF8574
- air pressure sensor
- rubber or silicon tube for attaching/sealing the air pressure sensor
- MARQUARDT rocker switch 1808.6302
- two 18650 cells
- USB break out board with charging circuit
- o-ring for mouthpiece
- o-ring for air chamber
- thin rubber gasket for air chamber sealing
- raspberry pi zero w
- respeaker2 mic board
- 5pin DIN socket for MIDI
- 3.5 mm stereo jack for line out or head phones
- ...
With a raspberry pi zero w inside you will have many options. But a micro controller design can be a different solution with less power consumption.
- scanning sensors and keys with a python script
- sending midi messages to an external synth
- running a synth locally on the pi
- connecting headphones directly to the EWI
- and more...
The electronic components listed above are reflecting my solution. But my software and electronics design is in a very early state of prototyping, so there is nothing useful to release.
Have Fun!
