Problem: American Civil War era artillery spy glass lens cover replacement.
Goal: create new lens covers for the front and back of an antique spyglass
Ideas: slide on covers, snap on covers, make out of flexible filament
Prototypes:
Front:
v1 was an attempt to make a slide on cap however the filaments we have are not stretchy enough for it to work so this was scrapped as a viable option

v2 moved to a snap on design, but the tines were not cut deeply enough preventing it from snapping on properly

v3 lengthened cap and angled tines
v4 shortened cap and deepened cuts for the tines

Back:
v1 was an attempt to make a snap on cap and while the design was good it was rather brittle and weak due to the tines reaching too far in

v2 adjusted the tines to slope less to improve durability

v3 decreased tines slope and thickened bottom

v4 thinned bottom and shape of outside edge was changed to make it easier to grip
Final version:
Front:
v5 walls were thickened to increase durability

Back:
v5 walls were thickened

Closing thoughts: this project's difficulty came mostly from the durability and flexibility of the filaments we had on hand. Keeping the part walls thin enough to be flexible but thick enough to survive use was a fine line.
