Print List:

  • Planter_Base ---------------------Print: 1
  • Planter_Cells ---------------------Print: 1
  • Planter_Roof ---------------------Print: 1
  • Planter_Wall '---------------------Print: 4
  • Planter_Clip_Vertical '-----------Print: 8
  • Planter_Clip_Horizontal --------Print: 16
  • Planter_Basket_LivingHinge --Print: 64
  • Planter_Tamper -----------------Print: 1

Instructions:

  1. Print the quantity of things listed in the “Print List”

  2. To waterproof the “Planter_Base”, pour a pool of water based polyurethane or tung oil into the “Planter_Base” and tilt the “Planter_Base” around until the interior surface of the part is fully coated. Dump the excess & let dry.

  3. Tip regarding the “Planter_Basket_LivingHinge” pieces: Fold up the arms while they're still adhered to the bed after printing. I found that I got much cleaner folds that way.

  4. Place the “Planter_Cells” piece inside the “Planter_Base”

  5. Insert the “Planter_Wall” pieces into the base

  6. Snap the  “Planter_Clip_Vertical” pieces onto the corners of the “Planter_Wall” walls at the tops & bottoms. You'll notice that there are little stops near those locations to prevent the clips from sliding around. (These Clips snap on from the outside)

  7. Place the “Planter_Roof” on top of the “Planter_Walls” so that it's resting on the little inset ledge all the way around.

  8. Snap the “Planter_Clip_Horizontal” clips on from the bottom side of where the Roof & Walls meet. These clips are designed to be installed by catching them on the inside lip of the Roof & rotating them down && outward until they mate with the lip of the Walls. Again, you'll notice that there are stops near the “T” sections of the roof to prevent the clips from sliding around.

  9. Get creative for the greenhouse lid's membrane. I superglued plasticwrap to the inside of the lid but that was a major pain. I recommend wrapping the exterior of lid with heat-shrink cellophane (from a gift supply store) && heatshrinking it in place.

  10. Place the baskets inside each cell of the planter.

  11. Pour in your sprouting media. I recommend either stranded coconut fiber or peat moss.

  12. Lightly tamp down the sprouting media in each cell using the flat side of the “Planter_Tamper”

  13. Use the pointy side of the “Planter_Tamper” to make furrows in each cell for the seeds.

  14. To water your planter, pour water into the little outset bit of the “Planter_Base”. This planter is designed so the water will flow all the way across.

General printing tips:

  • Some of these pieces are large & may warp as they print (like mine..). You may want an enclosure of some sort to prevent warping. Alternatively, you may want to increase your bed temp a smidge above your normal setting for the large pieces.

  • Don't be like me: Be patient with your prints. I don't recommend using crazy settings to decrease the print times too much. Yeah, I got both the cells & base printed in just under 2 hours but the results of those settings caused a lot of headaches (& some very ugly prints). :/
