The Intent
Like every other record collector with an Ikea in any reasonable distance from their home, I use an Expedit (now Kallax) to keep my record collection organized. One thing I've always struggled with his how to keep my 7-inch records organized alongside my 12-inches without them being smashed or otherwise being out of place. I also wanted to be able to pull a bunch of them out at once in an orderly manner since I have large hands and grabbing a sleeve on a 7-inch can be a nightmare.
As a bonus, I thought it would be nice to utilize that space to store other things on top of them without running the risk of anything being banged up.
In my case, this holds 60 records, which happens to be my entire collection of 7-inches.
Design Goals
- Be able to print on an Ender 3 v2 or similar printer.
- Use as little filament as possible.
- Simple enough that anyone could just grab the .stl and go to town with it.
Printing
I built this to be printed on it's back (the side with a 15mm border, but no latticing) as it uses less filament and still allows for the necessary stability. The way the latticing on the sides is done is meant to be printed without supports.
The walls themselves are pretty small, so you don't need/won't use a ton of infill. I always run at least 10%, but I have no real reason to do that other than habit and superstition.
This is a long print.
With a .4mm nozzle and a .2mm layer height, it took about 30 hours to print. I'm sure there are ways to optimize this, but I just haven't explored those to this point.
I've included my .gcode as an example of what works. I was able to print this with no supports and everything came out as seen in the pictures.
