This is a Reversi set, also known in many places as Othello. It is a classic two-player strategy game in which both players use the same type of pieces and try to take control of the board by surrounding the opponent's pieces.
How it works
Reversi is played by two players on an 8x8 board. Players take turns placing pieces on the board. Whenever a newly placed piece traps one or more of the opponent's pieces in a straight line, with the player's own pieces at both ends, those trapped pieces are captured and turned over.
The game continues until no more legal moves are possible or the board is full. The winner is the player with the greater number of pieces showing their side at the end of the game.
Because the rules are simple but the decisions quickly become strategic, Reversi works well both as an introduction to abstract board games and as a game of careful planning.
