I started to learn the very basics of 3D design so I thought designing my own X20V battery wall mount can be a nice little project.

One thing I've noticed checking out other models is that they seem to be completly overengineered. The one I used before took 3+ hours to print and uses 12m+ filament and one of them got instantly delaminated when I started using, because of its design. (printing quality was actually pretty good.) This looks like a lot of time and material so I have tried to minimize these two.

The design I came up with prints in about 40 minutes on my Ender3V2 and takes only ~2m from your spool.

I printed it with PLA. The model was in a standing position cause I assume this decreases the chance of delamination. It also could increase it, I dont know. It's just a gut feeling.

Advices:

  • 4 walls
  • 4 top and bottom layers
  • I used 35% infill
  • Low quality settings in cura (0.28mm layer height)
  • If you dont make the surroundings of the holes stronger with support blockers in cura then be careful when you are tightening the screws (but this is not model specific, true for pretty much every 3D prints)

I wasted about 15m of filament during the design. Assuming that other models took 10+m it seems I only need to have two people who ever prints this out to make my design justified. Or one person printing out two :)

Note:

  • this is not that much of an interesting project… but still, if you have any comment or advice about the design feel free to contact me, cause I'm eager to learn
  • Using 12m filament could give you a more rigid model. Mine feels a bit flimsy but serves me well for weeks, so I guess its alright
