Snap-fit enclosure for the Silicon Labs XG24-EK2703A / EFR32xG24 Explorer Kit. The EFR32xG24 Explorer Kit is a small form factor development and evaluation platform based on the EFR32MG24 System-on-Chip. The EFR32xG24 Explorer Kit is focused on rapid prototyping and concept creation of IoT applications for 2.4 GHz wireless protocols including Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth mesh, Zigbee, Thread, and Matter.
Print in PLA/PETG/… whatever you have at hand. There's two top covers:
- A plain one - when you want to use the on-board chip antenna
- One with a hole - which allows for a fixed 2.4GHz antenna to be used (ANT-2.4-PW-QW-UFL at Mouser)
Note: to use the external antenna, one must re-solder a 18pF capacitor on the EFR32xG24 explorer kit, to the correct position.
Once you put the board in the bottom enclosure, you can give the 2 mounting posts a dab with the soldering iron, and the board will nicely stay in place.
Using Silicon Labs “Simplicity Studio” - you can make this into e.g. a nice, stable, Zigbee Coordinator, by using a:
- bootloader-uart-xmodem: a bootloader for the board
- ncp-uart-hw: Network-Co-Processor, which turns the device into a Zigbee Coordinator
This is compatible with e.g. Zigbee2MQTT by using the “ezsp” implementation.
This gives you a nice, powerful and affordable reference implementation of the EFR32MG24 radio, while giving you the possibility of rolling your own firmware.
