This adapter is for vintage film cameras of a certain era, usually mechanical cameras with light meters designed to be powered by PX625 Mercury battery cells.
Cameras tested:
- Leitz-Minolta CL (Leica CL)
- Yashica-Mat 124G
This is designed for SR44 (Silver Oxide) cells. LR44 (Alkaline) cells have slightly different dimensions and won't fit as well.
SR44 cells are slightly harder to come by, but maintain a more constant voltage than LR44 cells as they discharge, so old cameras (which were designed for the constant voltage of the 625 Mercury cell) will operate more consistently.
SR44 cells have a higher voltage (1.55 V) than 625 cells (1.35 V), so readings from meters powered by SR44 cells will be slightly off. In practice this is not likely to matter much unless shooting slides, and meters from this era will likely require recalibration anyway.
