when it comes to adjusting couplings' height you mainly see these sold or made for Kadee couplers, and for a good reason. This style of coupling is very common on most American Ho scale models and has a special NEM coupling made for NEM-fitted models.

As a model railroaded who makes most of his models, ensuring that all of them have a consistent height is important for coupling. too low it may not couple right, too high it may not stay coupled.

I've found that British Bachmann models (such as the Branchline or T&F lines) stick to around 8mm coupling height, however, I found an image from Kadee that shows some NEM pockets set to be set at 8.5mm. for this, I made this to sit normally at 8mm, with optional spacers to print with it at 0.25 & 0.5mm. or you can make your own and adjust them to your liking.

I have included the Fusion 360 file of this model for if you wish to make your own coupling height guide in other systems. such as your own Kadee guide, magnet couplings, sprat & winkle system, or your own specialized system. feel free to post a remake of your design for others to use!

Notes:

Print with Ironing on to give a smooth finish to the model. on top surfaces.

check for any warping in the print. if found, check height dimensions with calipers to ensure it's correct, but expect to reprint.

Print using a SMOOTH SURFACE and avoid textured surfaces for printing.

Assembly

For every full assembly, you will need at least the base and one of the currently available coupling fitting guide blocks to peg in using paper clips or 1mm pins. along with the spacers if needed.

cut 1mm pins or paperclips to peg everything in. some you can bend to fit in the recessed areas of the model. there are in total, 4 holes going through vertically, and 2 smaller ones horizontally to line two blocks up.

before assembling, there are 4 holes for depth guides to ensure all your couplings can be mounted at the same depth from the end of the model. use the same method from before to make pins to help maintain consistent depts amongst all your models.

before gluing everything together if you wish, check to make sure your guide is set to the correct height you desired using calipers.
