MCP03 Mobile Compact Panohead V.0.3

MCP_03 is a compact panoramic VR head for small cameras and for phones. It will allow you to take 360VR photos while keeping the lens on the no-parallax point while rotating.

The project is a mix of materials and technology, based on what was easy to find by me and more convenient for the project.

I’ll put Italian links to the pieces, your responsibility to choose the most suitable ones.

CUTTING CARBON FIBER IS NASTY AND CAN BE DANGEROUS, if you never did it refrain and use 15mm aluminum or plastic tubing.

What you need to print: All these in PLA or whatever you want.

The body:

Multimaterial. Aluminum clamp and printed connector.

You need to print 2x identical body files.

MCP-03_body_flatscrew.stl uses 1/4”x 20 x 3/8” countersink conic head screws. https://www.ebay.it/itm/133757377714

ARMS!

Arm120 is overkill, if you need it, buy a proper nodal ninja head!

Arm 60 can handle most of the small 1” good compact cameras, Arm90 is situated for longer

combos or when holding a phone upside down (light phone holder needed).

The screws I used as a model are https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07V6K4DQS and they will hold the camera in place.

The tripod base

MCP-03_tripod_base.stl is the other important piece. You MUST have a 1/4” female screw heat insert. https://www.amazon.it/dp/B0BDDHQPKC

Print a pair of spacers MCP-03_spacer-ring, they will come to be useful.

Then you will have to print the two rotator clackstop-rings, depending on the angular space you want the pictures to be taken. I.e. an MCP-03_12ring.stl is a 12-clackstop ring, so you will take a picture every 30 degrees. MCP-03_8ring.stl will give you a45 degrees separation. Choose one for horizontal (panning) and one for vertical (tilt) rotation.

The satisfying haptic CL:ACK feeling and sound is given by the MCP-03_clackstop-a.stl or the B version. They are specular, you have to choose depending on the direction you prefer to turn the head and how you build it.
