Intro:
Updated 11/12/2024
This is my version of a Filament Storage system using plastic cereal containers. I made these based on the Printed Solid Jessie filament in the plastic spools which.
I included different size spool hubs. The Jessie plastic spools use the 52mm and 89.5mm hubs as of this writing. The 52mm hub also have worked on some Inland/eSun plastic spools which I use to use.
The older version 1 has the filament run through the desiccant container. For that you will need PC4-M10 connectors
All work done in Tinkercad.
This model from Pakue is what inspired me to create this design.

Update Information:
I mainly use Printed Solid Jessie filament. They changed from cardboard to plastic spools which have different dimensions and different hub sizes on the sides. They are larger, so I had to make some drastic changes to get them to work. Overall, I like this design a little better and hopefully will accommodate more spools.
I had to modify the Spool Arms to get the spool as close to the top as possible so it would clear touching the container on all sides. I also increase the size of the part that holds the bearing so it would be a little more secure. Last I changed where the filament exits the container and I reworked the Desiccant Container.
I included two versions of the new arms with slightly different sizes for the bearings (8.1mm and 8.2mm). Even the bearings I get in the same batch will not all be exactly the same inner diameter. Probably because I get the cheap ones.
What you will need:
Containers
The containers I used are the Wildone brand. These had the least amount of obstruction at the back for my use. If you find these and the drill guide work on other brands let me know and I will update this information.
Silica Gel Desiccant Beads
I used the white ones because I read they can pull a little more moisture from the air and would be the least toxic (we have cats who will steal anything)
Hygrometer
These cost a little more but had very good ratings. They look like most others but I bought 8 and set them side by side for a few hours and they same with 1% off for humidity and .4 off from temp. YMMV but I have been happy with them so far.
608ZZ Bearings
2 per container. The ones I got had slight variations in the inner diameter so I made two different spool arms for 8.1mm and 8.2mm
PTFE Tubing
I had this from an order several years ago but it is still available. I am sure any decent tubing would be ok.
3mm x 8 flat head hex screws
4 per container
I purchased some on Amazon and had a handful around. Make sure you use the flat head because the spool will be really close to them.
Double-sided tape
Used to hold the hygrometer in place
For the older version
PC4-M10
Command Picture Hanging Strips
1 per container
I used the Medium but going to use the Small for the rest of what I have. Either should work
Print Settings
I used the default PrusaSlicer 0.2mm Structural on the MK4
