This is a really simple cable chain mount for my Ender 3 fitted with a Bondtech BMG extruder. I put this together because none of the existing designs on Thingiverse seemed to be suitable for use with Bondtech's 'official' mount design that flips the stepper on its side (1). Some of the designs that include a cable chain to the hotend might have worked, but I don't really need/want that chain.
I repurposed this from a design by jburkhardt0 (2), that was intended to fit under the stepper in its default orientation. By mirroring it across the z-axis and adding some recesses for the cable chain, it now fits very nicely above the stepper and attaches to the cable chain a little better. It does work with the default mounting screws, but screws just a couple of millimetres longer are preferable for more secure mounting. I also created a stronger version that has thicker cable mounting points and flexes a bit less under the weight of the cable.
When in use, this can cause the cable and cable chain (3) to interfere with the filament path. I specifically designed an extended filament guide for the Bondtech extruder to fix this problem (4).
You should note that this mount lifts the cabling quite a bit higher than normal. Your hotend cabling should be long enough to reach in all cases, but you might have to have the X-axis stepper and end-stop cables exit the chain a little early. In my case, those cables exit three links before the end.

This needs to carry the weight of the entire cable chain and cable, and also contributes to the mounting of the extruder, so it needs to be strong. I printed with 4 0.4 mm walls and 6 0.2 mm top and bottom layers, plus high infill density, to ensure it holds up over time.
