Trying to build a dust shoe / accessory holder for MPCNC. Wanted it to be attached to the gantry and not the Z-axis assembly / Z-motor mount. I had some 13" 8mm smooth rods lying around, so I based it off that. You can just as easily use threaded 5/16" rod you can grab at any big box store on the cheap.

NOTE This is for the 3/4" conduit version of MPCNC. If you have 25mm or 25.4mm OD, this will probably not work. Sorry.

Assembly

First use 2 Gantry-Rod Connectors to attach the rods to the gantry. You'll need a few longer bolts (3" x 4) than stock MPCNC for mounting the rod clamps to the XY gantry parts.

Insert Rods thru the connectors.

Next attach the skirt to the Shoe Base with 3mm screws.

Attach that to the bottom of the rods.

Next attach the Smooth Rod Top to the top of the rods. This also provides direction/control for hoses and wires.

ACRYLIC UPDATE 9/27/18: I use Marlin for my MPCNC, so my GCODEs look like 3d printing files, but they are not. I used Estlcam 11 to produce them from the SVG files. I used 1/4 acrylic, but there's no reason you couldn't just do more layers with thinner acrylic. There's 3 parts:

  1. Top has two holes, one for the router to go through, one for the vacuum hose hookup.

  2. The middle layers are open.

  3. The bottom has one hole, for the router. I added hex holes for 3mm nuts to fit in, so I could get as flush as possible (FAF, perhaps?) to the workpiece, and learned the hard way, when you want to countersink holes on the bottom of a piece, you need to flip the design!

Updates

3/28/19: Allow for rod position changes for non-3/4" conduit MPCNC versions.
2/6/19: Uploaded 2-rod shoe base with nut clamps. Fixed SCAD issues.

2/5/19: Swapped 3-rod base with 2-rod base in pictures.

9/27/18: Uploaded Acrylic CNC files.

12/11/17: Clarified longer bolts to be used to attach to gantry

10/23/17: Switched to Set-Screw type clamping (instead of friction)
