Made this to aid in the replacement or changing of orientation of the mag catch in a Canik Rival-S. The channel for the mag catch spring in the Rival-S is rounded which makes it extremely difficult to hold in place while reinserting the mag release.

Note: Print with mag release channel facing up. No supports needed if printed in this orientation.

Tolerances are extremely tight to prevent the spring from slipping out. A helper tool that works “ok” has been included to aid in step 3 and 6 below.

How to use it:

  1. Lay spring in channel with the short leg out and the longer leg with the curve in the channel
  2. Push mag catch tool past the BOTTOM of the channel for the spring to retain one side but not higher than the slot for the mag release
  3. Use included tool or alternate tool to press the short leg of the mag catch spring down into channel
  4. Slide mag catch tool into position to allow insertion of mag release
  5. Use a 90 degree pick tool, needle-nose pliers, or an alternate tool to pull the mag catch spring up so BOTH legs clear the top of the mag catch slot. Do not pull the spring too high or it will come out and you'll have to start over. I used a Harbor Freight 90 degree pick tool.
  6. Slide mag catch with the larger slot in the position to accept the longer spring leg with the curve and push the spring into mag catch. There's a slot on the end of the helper tool that might help push it down. Ensure the mag catch isn't inserted too far preventing the leg from sliding in.
  7. Push the mag catch in a little further and push the short leg in.

Printed both tools in PETG. Infill was left at 15% and layer height for the main tool was .3mm using a .6mm nozzle and the “helper tool” was printed with .2mm with a .6mm nozzle.

Tolerances front to back are tight and there is some extra material on the back that can be sanded off if necessary. Alternatively if you squish your first layer more, you can create some more space. I don't have any polymer frames to test with but if anyone can tell me how much in the dimensions to alter, I'm happy to make a version for polymer Caniks.
