As many others, I had a difficult time printing those parts. It failed on the second layer trying to bridge over the squares.
Someone in the comments mentioned they don't have real functionality apart from making it easier to pull the model from the bed (which is not an issue for me).
So I filled the first layer squares so it will be flat - and it printed real nice.
