This is used to support/position characters as you are doing stop motion.  This used 3D printed gears plus sections of brass tubing to provide cheap bears to make the rack gear motion fairly smooth.  It also uses 4-40 brass inserts for the threaded parts.

The cad can be seen here.

I originally designed this to use a big stack of nickels in the provided tank treads to provide weight.  They can hook onto a standard “Helping Hands” to provide various ball joints/clamps and other bits of hardware.

I printed this all in PLA, with no special settings. On a Prusa i3 Mk2.

I did use a brim on some of the parts, but don't use that on the rack gear.  I provide some mouse ears at the ends of the rack to keep it from lifting, you don't want to have to clean every tooth.

I originally designed the vertical one to lock in with a 3D printed wedge, but have since opted to just glue the rack into the base since the wedge was not a 100% positive lock and it was uncool to have it pull of the base while you were repositioning it.

To glue them in you need to use one of the versions of the rack that does not have the big ball adapter at the end of the rack.

The eyebrow peg plugs into the head and allows the “eye wheel” to index exact positions.

If you'd like more details about all this stuff let me know.

Be warned that 1-2-3 blocks have very loose tolerances for the threaded hole sizes, so the pins that plug into the bock may have to have their sizes tweaked in order to get a decent fit.  However that doesn't mater that much so it's fine if they're a bit loose as long as you screw it down tight.
