Summoner Wars Second Edition Starter Set Box Insert

Overview

Summoner Wars second edition is a great head to head card game that was released in 2022 and continues to see updates.  The Starter Set is a good entry point into getting into the game and starting your collection.

Unfortunately, the starter set does not have a card storage solution (neither does the master set).  I have designed a storage solution specifically for the stater set because I want to grow my Summoner Wars collection using the starter set as a basis.

Design

I started learning OnShape recently as it is a fantastic professional CAD tool.  I have built this project completely in OnShape so please checkout the project here.

I wanted to design the insert so that decks can easily be organised and viewed.  I also wanted to allow for as many decks as possible to fit in the space allocated.  I had to compromise by excluding card sleeves as a possibility as they simply take up too much space for the amount of space available (the starter box is small compared to the master set for instance).  If you want to use sleeves, than you will probably need to use 2 slots instead of 1.

The lip in the slots allows for both viewing the faction deck and also an convenient place to grab the decks.  Even when there are decks back to back, the lip allows a good grabbing point.

All of the trays are independent prints.  This means that the token and dice tray can be removed from the box and set along side the play area.  No need to dump the tokens as the tray is big enough to grab tokens out with your fingers. The dice tray can hold extra dice if you decide on purchasing more dice.  Finally, each tray has a lid which holds the tokens and dice in place when the box lid is on top in the event you invert your box or store it on its side.

Print

I have the Bambu Lab P1S with a 256mm^3 build area.  The left and right base just fit on this build area.  If you have a slightly smaller build area, than this print may not work on your printer.  Feel free to use my onshape project to cut up the bases to fit your printer.

Otherwise, I used the default settings on Bambu Studio. Bambu Studio decided to use brims to help with curl as it is a very long piece.  Because the P1S is a great printer with a heated bed, my print turned out perfectly with no curls.  I can't recommend Bambu Lab enough!
