Curtain Rail Coat Hook Replacement
We are using an overdoor curtain rail in our bedroom to hang some clothes or other garments. The hooks in the started breaking.
The parts were very old (decades), likely not available any more. While you likely don't have the exact same construct, the concept of having a hook in a curtain rail is very common, and this part can be adapted accordingly.
Design in Fusion 360
Goal was therefore to design replacement parts in order to still be able to use the construction. Most important were the correct dimensions of the part which inserts into the rail.
Parts of the sketch were extruded and a couple of edges rounded. Small testprints of the upper part of the model were used to ensure a thight, but still movable fit.
PETG print on a MK4
The part was printed in white prusament PETG on a MK4. On the left the original part in complete and in broken state. On the right the 3D-printed replacement (final). The part on the far right was the first protoype which also fit very well, but I was unsure whether it would be stable enough over time.
Installation
The printed parts fit perfectly into the rail, with tighter tolerances than the original ones.
After reassembly, we could again hang some clothes at the door. The hook on the far left is the v1 protoype, the others the final design. I guess I will see how well they hold up.
Again, you may not have the exact same construct, but similar ones are quite common. You could use the hooks in any curtain rail. A Fusion 360 file is included, which should allow you to modify in case your curtain rails have other dimensions.
