This is a convenient thing for easily carrying a stack of boxes, storage crate, wood... you name it!

The MakerBox Carrier Handle is a sturdy grip that holds onto a pair of nylon web straps and stablizes whatever you wrap them around. I have several of these that I use for transporting storage bins of parts, projects and tools from space to space. Be sure to check out the printing instructions for details on making a solid-practical print that can take abuse. And as always, please post a picture of your own builds!

Design was inspired by the LEGO 1x2 Bar Handle brick

Notes:

Print with 3-4 outer walls to create a sturdy shell.

For strength, print vertically on-end as shown in the included print-bed photo.

It WILL need supports, but only for the underside of the support ribs. I slice with Prusa Slicer and use the "painted on supports" feature to enable supports just for those sections (also, see included photo... ;-)

One trick I use for making a solid, well-fused shell is to increase my line-width slightly to 0.42mm in the slicer settings. I also print ~5C warmer than usual on the hot-end to ensure solid layer-to-layer adhession. You're not going for perfect surface with this print as much as structural integrity.

Post-Printing

If you have stringing or surface "zits" I would recommend scraping/torching them off... Will make for a very uncomfortable grip on the handle...

How I Designed This

Designed in TinkerCAD... This is Rev4... I'm still using my Rev1 print, but it was chunky and a bit toooo big all-around.

Assembly

Additional Items:

For the bindle straps you'll need:

  1. ~5-6m - 25mm-wide (1") nylon webbing strap.
  2. 2 - 25mm-wide quick-release snap-buckles with integrated pull-lock
  3. 2 - 25mm-wide strap adjustment slide-buckles

I just buy this kit from Amazon... It's enough material and buckles to make four of these handles for ~$10USD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0825S1329/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Cut your straps to preferred length, and leave a little extra for the pull-end and securing the slide-buckle side. (I cut mine at 6.2m and that can wrap around 4 medium sized plastic storage boxes quite nicely. YMMV)
  2. Lace the strap through the slots on the bottom of the handle.
  3. Install the tang-side of the quick-release buckle on one end. Leave about 20cm for the pull-end for cinching.
  4. Install the slide-buckle on the other end of the strap, BEFORE installing the receiver-side of the quick-release buckle.
  5. Install the receiver-side of the quick-release buckle on the same end of the strap and secure the loop with the slide-buckle.

Now just loop around the stack of things you want to carry, cinch the two straps nice and tight, lift and GO!
