This is an accurate reproduction of the LEGO™ Classic Space logo, optimized for 3D printing! I took care to produce the logo exactly as it should look, while making sure borders and curves were smooth and consistent so that it prints well.

I've included three versions in three different sizes each. The basic version is the one you see most of the time on spacemen and their vehicles and such. The "craters" version includes some crater detail from the dark side of the planet. This version was occasionally seen in print, and appeared on large pieces in the famous early "LL 918", "LL 924" and "LL 928". Finally, there is a "detailed craters" version, which includes outlines around the crater details that make 3d prints look nicer.

The small and medium sizes are great as refrigerator magnets, so I've included a recess (8 mm and 15 mm respectively) in the back to help line up a magnet with the center of the planet. Add a couple extra magnets to the small version and it makes a great extruder visualizer! The craters are generally too detailed to look great at the smaller sizes, but maybe you can get good results with a small nozzle.

Filament:

Prusament PLA Viva La Bronze

Notes:

Optimized for 0.20mm layer height. If you're using a different layer height, I recommend scaling in the Z axis accordingly. Prusament Viva La Bronze PLA is a very close match to the original gold color.

If you're printing in a metallic gold filament, you can fine-tune settings for particular layers to get a really nice, shiny finish. I've included 3mf files for those of you using Prusaslicer with exact settings.

Global settings:

  • Set the top fill pattern to monotonic (or equivalent) and bottom fill pattern to Archimedean chords
  • 2 or 3 perimeters Height range modifiers: On layers that have top infill, use just 1 perimeter so that the endpoints of the infill pattern will be concealed well by the layers above. For the planet, use Archimedian chords for top infill pattern to create a nice swirly luster. The rectangle outline is included to center the infill at a good spot. For any of the white outline areas, tweak the number and extrusion width of perimeters tojust barely eliminate any infill or gap infill. This minimizes the hops/moves the printer makes to produce the smoothest, most even surface.

Layers to modify:

  • 1.2-1.4 mm - 1 perimeter
  • 1.4-1.8 mm - Tweak number/width of perimeters
  • 2.0-2.2 mm - Archimedean chord top-infill, 1 perimeter,slow top-infill speed
  • 2.4-2.6 mm - Tweak number/width of perimeters
  • 2.6-2.8 mm - 1 perimeter
  • 2.6-3.2 mm - Tweak number/width of perimeters Metallic filaments often look shinier if you print them slowly or at a bit higher temps. I recommend turning down the speed on the top-infill (it's not a long print, so it's not a big deal to slow down just a few spots.) There isn't any bridging or big moves that would cause stringing, so you can also bump up the temperature.
