A simple, easy to print, “Peg Solitare” style brain teaser.
This model is an easy print which requires no supports.
The model is also available at OnShape.
I've also provided a PrusaSlicer 3mf file which contains all of the necessary parts and layout.
How To Play:
First, set up the board by placing the pins in all of the holes. There are 15 holes and 14 pegs, so one hole will be left.
The objective of the game is to discard 13 pegs until there's one left standing. The only way to get rid of a peg is by hopping over it with another peg — if there's an empty space on the other side. Pegs can be moved sideways, up and down, and diagonally.
Each move is a “jump” of a peg over another into an open hole, removing the peg which was ‘jumped over’, and continuing until only one peg remains on the board or there are no moves left.
Think of it like checkers, but triangle shaped.
How to Solve the Brain Teaser:
Arrange the board such that the triangle point is up, away from you. This is Position 1. All of the other holes are numbered sequentially down and left-to-right.
Arrange the pegs so position 1 is left open. Then, move peg 4 to position 1. After that, move peg 6 to position 4 and then peg 1 to position 6. Next, move peg 7 to position 2, then peg 13 to position 4, and then move peg 10 to position 8. After that, you should move peg 2 to position 7, peg 7 to position 9, peg 15 to position 13. Now you're over half-way to victory! Move peg 12 into position 14, then peg 6 to position 13, and then move peg 14 to position 12. Finally, move peg 11 to position 13
Recommended Print Setup:
I recommend printing in PLA, but PETG will be perfectly fine too.
I've provided a PrusaSlicer file (*.3mf) which contains a number of suggested print options, but to highlight relevant parts here:
- (At least) 3 perimeters - I used 4
- 15% infill - Higher infill will ensure the base plate doesn't flex.
- 0.2 mm Layer Height
