Fully 3D printable and customizable wheels.

This caster design is 100% 3D printed and can be decorated with custom plates that are also compatible with the holes on the Cooler Master QUBE 500 PC case.

Why would you want caster wheels on a PC case?

  • Mobility to roll your PC wherever you need it! From desk, to studio, to VR space, etc.
  • Have easier access to the back of your PC to add or change peripheral cables.
  • Elevate your PC to keep it off of the floor. (3 inches above)

You have the ability to create your own customizable plates!

With your favorite 3D modeling software, you can create customizable plates that will fit onto the wheels, or simply stick them onto your QUBE 500 Case for looks. Just download the customizable plate file and customize it to "make it your own". (.STEP/.STL/.3MF whichever is compatible)

Assembly

Recommended Print Settings

Caster Assembly:
  • Filament: PETG, ABS, or ASA are recommended PLA may not work well with the swiveling mechanism.
  • layer height: 0.20mm
  • nozzle: 0.4mm is preferred
  • Perimeters / vertical walls: 4
  • Infill: 10% gyroid.
  • Supports: Enable brims for outer and inner (especially for the foot), the project files (.3MF) have supports painted on where they are needed, enable organic with supports supports for enforcers only on PrusaSlicer.
Customizable Plates:
  • Filament: PETG is recommended but PLA can be fine for these if you plan on attaching them permanently.
  • layer height: 0.20mm
  • nozzle: 0.4mm is preferred
  • Perimeters / vertical walls: 2
  • Infill: 10% gyroid to preferably 100% rectilinear
  • Supports: no supports required.
  • Color Changes: The plate models should be ready to slice with PrusaSlicer! (Positions will vary depending on the plate design of your choice.) Make sure to check the .gcode preview as to where you want the color changes to be. Here is a guide on color changes in PrusaSlicer: https://help.prusa3d.com/article/color-change_1687

Other Things to Note:

  1. All .STL and .3MF files were exported on the correct print orientation.
  2. The Wheels were cut using PrusaSlicer's cut tool, its also how the the snap on connectors were generated. I am providing a full .STEP file of the wheels if you would like to try it or change the connectors to your preference.  Learn about the cut tool here! I also recommend updating prusa slicer to 2.6.1 for the snap connectors!
  3. .STEP files are provided if you would like to remix any part of this model.
  4. Upload your makes and let me know if there are any issues with printing or the design in general, I may get back to you!

More about this design:

I often find myself moving my own PC from my desk to an open area where I can use my VR headset or racing sim rig. I should not be lifting my PC from the floor because there is a possibility that it could be dropped and damaged. Adding caster wheels to my case would be perfect, better yet, I can design and make my own while sharing them with the community!

The contest for the Cooler Master Qube 500 accessories has motivated me to design fully 3D printable and customizable casters using my go to CAD software KeyCreator and some features in PrusaSlicer!

For the wheels, I have been exploring the new cut tool features in PrusaSlicer. (We use the dovetails to print large objects at work a lot so kudos to whoever refined that tool!) The Snap connectors work well with assembling and holding the wheels together. Going through a few prototypes, I have added some features so the wheels will snap together without any issues. Triangle markers and the different sized snap connectors make it easy to tell where to align the wheels for them to snap together perfectly. Finally I adjusted the diameter of the wheel axle and distance between the wheels until they rolled smoothly within the swivel piece.

Next, the swiveling mechanism. Not too long ago, I wanted to fix a broken part of a dishwasher for a friend with ASA filament and reverse engineering. The part has an axle and wheel that snap together. You can see it here! I borrowed my reverse engineered axle and made a custom foot piece with the provided .STEP file for the contest. Then I converted the wheel into a socket because the roller wheel already fit well on the original part. It felt so satisfying when I got it to spin flawlessly with the first prototype!

Finally, I want everyone to make it their own! The Qube 500 Case from cooler master has holes where you can attach accessories and 3D printed parts. (So cool!) I added a hole to the center of each wheel, Then designed some personalized plates that can fit onto the wheels while also being able to fit into the holes on the case itself with the provided .STEP files from Cooler Master. This will allow people to design their own plates to make them look just as cool as a Cooler Master AIO pump! ;)

I hope the community will find my roller casters useful. Feel free to remix them to work with whatever you want.
