'The Xvico X3S is a standard Bowden setup and those looking to change to direct drive usually have to adopt an Ender 3 upgrade kit with modifications.  I decided to see if I could make a conversion with 3D printed parts only and with the addition of the improved Mk 8 all metal extruder available online.  I have included an assembly STL for reference only.

I did the following

  1.  I inverted the 3 wheel carriage so that the single wheel is at the top.
  2.  The X drive belt now connected topside of the carriage.
  3.  I reversed the X stepper direction by swapping 2 end wires in the plug cut and solder.
  4.  I removed  the wheel bolts on the X and Y wheels and  ground or filed the heads thinner (necessary where the heads clashed after inverting the X carriage).
  5.  The newly printed Stepper bracket was next slipped over the metal tab on the X carriage and I spotted through the 2 mounting holes and drilled through the metal carriage to bolt it on using 4mm screws.
  6.  Next I assembled the extruder and hot end carefully working out the length of the Bowden tube required to link them.
  7.  Now I could mount the Fan shroud which I modified from the  thingiverse.com/thing:4731508  fan shroud by “UrNotRyan”.   Thanks for this great model I have used many times.  Spot through the bracket holes once in position.  I melted 3 mm nuts into the Stepper Bracket  for bolting on.
  8.  I had to modify the X limit switch position and have left a large tab to facilitate this on the fan shroud.  You will have to sort that as its different on mine to std from previous mods.  Not too difficult.
  9.   Complete by mounting the fans using small screws and sorting out cable paths etc.

Trouble shooting.

I did find a bit of play in the inverted carriage as it doesn't have adjustment.  I filed a little out of the top wheel hole and pushed the wheel towards each other whilst tightening the screws.  No play now maybe an eccentric adjuster is available.

Please note that the ideas are mine and the Stepper Bracket is original by me,  the fan shroud was a remake of the original shroud modified by me.

Software used :  Onshape and Tinkercad

Materials used:  PLA   (others have said to print the shroud in ABS or other higher temperature filament but I have used a PLA shroud for some time without problems.

0.2mm layer height 50% infill

UPDATE:

Added modified bracket for mounting of cable chain and left hand bracket for adding cable chain to old runout sensor bracket (slots on).
