Since my vacuum robot mostly treats the doorstoppers as obstacles I needed a smart solution: narrow stopper which is adjustable and doesn't need much space!

So I designed this stopper:
An excentric roll is turned up to 180°. Indicator arrow shows up = open. The "stroke" which is achievable is 5mm. Eventually I achieved a 13mm thick door stopper with wide range of height compensation!

In open conditions the stopper should easily be slided between door and floor. If there is less than 5mm space left, the stopper should work. You can finetune the function by adding a spacer to the slope area of the DoorStopper(V2/V3)_Rear.stl. In PrusaSlicer you can load the part DoorStopper(V2+3)_Spacer.stl. Now switch off the Lock of the scale factors and choose the right height of the spacer (total value in mm). See screen shot below:

The Door Stopper is printable in several versions:

A1) Front and rear corpus assembly: You can use countersunk selftabbing screws /approx. 1.9x8mm or similar. Version V2. Pay attention not to have screws standing over the surface, as this may cause scratches on your doors.

A2) Front and rear corpus assembly: You can just click it together, as the front part perferably is printed facing down to the build plate, I did not want to try to clip it recersably. So when everything works fine, just heat up the two dowels on the rear with a soldering device and press a cone, or better a Ø8-10mm steelball to cool down and have a permanent (irreversable) connection. Prior to this make 100% sure that the tolerances allow you to rotate the stopper wheel, as after welding you may need to destroy the assembly.

B1) Stopper Wheel in three versions (all are 100% compatible):

  • Wheel with groove for a Ø43x3.5mm (OD, outer diameter) Rubber-O-Ring. Alternatively print your O-ring! Arrow showing "Open" is 0.4mm outstanding of the wheel. When you want another color, just go for a M600 (PrusaSlicer) and exchange from one color to another.
  • Wheel with solid circumference and arrow 0.4mm outstanding of the wheel. When you want another color, just go for a M600 (PrusaSlicer) and exchange from one color to another.
  • Wheel with solid circumference and arrow 0.4mm recessed in the wheel.

Blue: weld-version    /    White: self-tabbing screw version

Printer: Prusa MK4

Print Settings:

Frontplate: PLA (230°C/60°C) with 0.2mm LH. InputShaper (IS). Frontplate with front view facing down on build plate. No support.

Rearplate: I printed the plate standing on the side, because of stability reasons. The angle is much more rigid against breaks. Therefore, I used the magnificent “Organic support” (Prusa Slicer) there where the wheel runs in. PLA (230°C/60°C) with 0.2mm LH. Standard MK4 settings. You may need to apply some brim for stability reasons. My six years old Prusa PEI-plate still works very good and I printed without brim, it worked out excellent.

Wheel: No InputShaper for the wheel. I supported the whole excenter with “Snag” support (Prusa Slicer). After so and so mm I forced in Prusa Slicer a filament change (different color), which worked fine. 215°C/60°C.

Hands Touch-Up: All supports came off very nicely. When you pre-assemble the door stopper you'll find out some burrs or impurities. With a small stroke of a diamond or ordinary key-file (square shape worked best fpor me). Maybe a litte touch-up with sandpaper for the rear surface of the wheel wouldn't hurt also.

Check the function with your door(s). In worst case you may need to re-do the rear plate, using the attached (see files directory) Spacer to make best fit.

If eventually the operation works seamlessly you can final-assemble the three parts. Use four (4) self-tabbing screws for one version. For the “weld version” apply heat via soldering iron on the two nipples and press down a steel ball (approx. Ø8-10mm), this cools down the weld and connects the fron and rear plate irreversably.

I would be glad if you have success and enjoy this unique doorstopper.
Happy printing! Happy Door Stopping!

Tip: You may enlarge the stopper by re-scaling the stopper. That would not necessary lead to a thicker than 13mm corpus if you know how to scale unproportional in any slicer.
