Came up with this while experimenting with ridiculous vase mode settings.

I've seen a few of this type of doorstopper lately on Printables and thought it could work as a vase mode print as well - albeit, using some unconventional settings.

It's a quick and light print, at about 12 minutes and 10g of filament, give it a shot! :)

As PLA is fairly slippery, this won't really work on hardwood floors, but it seems to do fine on somewhat thick carpet.

I used a Creality K1, Polymaker PolyTerra PLA Marble Grey filament.

This was sliced using Cura, as I have not found a way to slice it in Prusa, Orca or Creality's slicer, as none of them will allow you to slice with the settings I used:

  • Vase mode
  • 0.4mm nozzle - the regular brass one that came with the K1, I do not yet have a high-flow or CHR nozzle of any size
  • 1.5mm line width
  • -0.75mm wall inset, as there is some strange artifacting going on with Cura
  • 0.6mm layer height
  • I used 25mm/s initial layer speed and 12.5mm/s wall speed - though being Vase mode, I'm not quite sure which one was used. I did have to reduce the speed to 90% in Fluidd while it was printing the skirt (extruder was clicking), which is also set at 25mm/s, but didn't pay attention after that to see if it slowed down to 12.5, in which case I could have bumped up the speed.
  • Cooling is quite important, if you have a part fan on the side (such as the Creality K1 has), I would suggest you orient the print in such a way as to provide the most airflow. If the “tail” end of the print is facing towards the fan, you might get some bubbling on the “hot” (top left) side, which does not get enough airflow.
