Overview: Introducing a customizable rodent running wheel, designed for mice and resizable for hamsters, created with OpenSCAD. This model combines functionality with ease of printing, allowing for various adjustments to cater to your pet's specific needs.
Key Features:
- Customizable Dimensions: Modify the wheel's diameter, width, and number of running bars to fit different rodent sizes.
- Bearing Integration: Incorporates bearings for a smooth and quiet rotation. Bearings are to be inserted post-printing.
- Robust Support Structure: Comes with a solid stand that ensures stability and safety during use.
- Optimized for 3D Printing:
- Layer Height Setting: It is recommended to set the layer height to the maximum limit your printer allows for efficient printing. For instance, on a printer like mine, setting it to 0.28 mm works well.
- Preparation in Slicer: The model should be split into separate objects in the slicer software. Each object can then be auto-oriented for the best printing outcome.
- Minimum 3 Outer Walls: Guarantees the wheel's durability and strength.
- No Additional Supports Required: Engineered to print without the need for generated supports, reducing material usage and post-processing time.
- Simple Assembly: The side part of the wheel must be be glued to the main body. For other parts it should be possible to assemble them without gluing but this depends on the printer's profile and capabilities, with further adjustments possible in the OpenSCAD file. But gluing is not a sin 😉.
Usage Instructions:
- Adjust parameters in the OpenSCAD file according to your needs or use the existing STL file.
- In your slicer software, split the model into individual objects and auto-orient each for optimal printing.
- Print the components.
- Unless using solid version, remove two supporting rings joining running bars.
- Assemble the wheel:
- Inserting the bearings into their slots.
- Glue the side part of the wheel to the main structure.
- Connect all other parts.
- Place the running wheel in your pet’s habitat for exercise and enjoyment.
Safety Considerations:
- Smooth all parts to prevent any risk of injury.
- Regularly inspect the wheel for wear or damage.
Designed for pet enthusiasts who enjoy DIY projects, this running wheel offers a great combination of customizability, user-friendly printing, and pet entertainment. Create a delightful and safe exercise tool for your small furry friend!
