I designed this to stabilize the cheap table my 3D printer sits on. Because the table top is probably made of cardboard inside I didn't want to drill into it, so I designed this vice to hold the table to the wall while not damaging the table itself. Note, this is intended to stabilize the table, not support the weight of the table. Tolerances Are tight, so make sure your printer is well tuned or sanding may be required along the clamp track.
Required Materials:
- Tough/Strong Filament, I used PLA +.
- TPU Filament (Approximately 95A).
- One M8 x 120mm Bolt with 13mm Hex Head.
- One Matching M8 Nut, Also 13mm.
- Min of two, optionally four M4 Socket Head Bolts and matching Nuts (7mm) .
- One M8 Washer.
- Optionally Super glue to secure nuts / handle to bolt. If not using the embedded Nut clamp I strongly recommend gluing it in place because opening the clamp without it being secured will be difficult.
Print Instructions:
PLA+ Parts: 0.2 Layer Height, 6 Wall Loops, 25% Cubic Infill. Optionally you may need a brim.
- One table stabilizer base, print on end to preserve track geometry.
- One table stabilizer sliding base, print on end, clamp jaw side down.
- One table stabilizer clamp or table stabilizer clamp with embedded nut.
- If printing the embedded nut version you will need to insert a pause at the correct time so that the nut can be added. For 0.2 layer height it was at layer 70, which I added to the embedded 3mf file.
- I am aware that wall along the nut is too thin for a 0.4 mm nozzle which leaves a hole in the print. This does not cause a functional issue and due to clearance issues with the Nut and the bolts on each side of the track it was better to leave it that way.
- Optionally, one knob. Without it you will need to use a wrench or ratchet to tighten the clamp. If using a wrench / ratchet be sure not to over tighten it, snug is sufficient.
TPU Parts: 0.2 Layer Height, 6 Wall Loops, 100% rectilinear infill
- Two table stabilizer tpu pads. These help increase friction with the desk while not damaging it.
Assembly Notes:
- The stabilizer base is designed to be screwed to the wall along a stud.
- The sliding base that is part of the clamp should easily slide into the stabilizer base with M4 nuts tucked into the bottom.
- The M4 bolts can be tightened to secure the sliding base's position. This allows the stabilizer base to be mounted wall along the stud at approximately at the correct height, and then the sliding base can be secured once the table is in the clamp. Because that adjustment May result in one end of the sliding base to be hanging off, you may only need two M4 Bolts.
- The fitment of the clamp and sliding base is tight, and intentionally so. Some sanding may be needed, but with the aid of the bolt and nut I was able to break in the movement without need.
- The TPU pads only fit the clamps in one orientation as the 4 nubs are slightly off center. They should easily press into the clamps with enough friction to hold them in place.
- If using the non-embedded Nut clamp, super glue the nut in place and let it fully cure before assembling. Otherwise you may struggle to release the clamp because pushing on the bolt will not exert any force on the clamp end.
