I'm thrilled to introduce you to Gingy 13, a jointed figure with a personality as sweet as gingerbread itself! Inspired by my collaboration with my wife on her children's book.

The book's requirements led me to design a Gingerbread person with interchangeable features like eyebrows, mouth, eyes, and more.  The expressions worked out great but we determined that a more posable version of Gingy would have been nice.

Fueled by working with Mini 13 models and the spark of a contest, I embarked on a mission to enhance Gingy. The result? A highly posable version that brings this lovable character to life in a whole new way!

What makes Gingy truly special is the ability to customize expressions. The Mini 13 joints elevate Gingy's flexibility and makes it to easy to display a wide range of emotions. Simply swap heads to give Gingy a different expression.

This is an easy print with one (or two) filament change points making it easy to create a wide variety of colorful Gingys with just a Prusa Mini.

Printing Instructions:

Gingy_13 was designed to easily print with only one color change.  The change point is at 5.6mm, printing at 0.15 layer height (0.20 first layer).  NOTE: This is just above the top of the ball joints.

For more color add another change at 6.95mm to create a three color print.

Expressions

Gingy is very expressive!  To display different emotions, select a head from the variety of expressions.  The same filament changing rule (@5.6mm) applies.

Bake a Batch of Gingys

When decorating Gingerbread cookies there is an easy way to add multiple colors. I like to print 4 Bodies at a time.  I print a several plates using a different colored filament at the change to give Gingy a more colorful wardrobe.

So there you have it.  Pick your favorite expressions and then print some frames in different colors.  You will quickly have a batch of colorful Gingys to keep you company.

I suggest applying some vegetable oil to the ball and clip prior to assembly.  PETG is sticky and needs the lubrication.

Mix, and create colorful Gingys from just a few simple prints.

Mini 13 Compatible

Since Gingy uses the joints from Mini 13 it is compatible with Mini 13 models. Here you see Gingy with the Mini 13 arms and hands, and Groot feet.

Summary

Gingy isn't just a jointed figure; he's a posable gingerbread friend who's ready to spread smiles and holiday cheer!

While Gingy benefits from a full MMU, a Prusa Mini is enough.

This book demonstrates what a little 3D printing, imagination, and online tools can accomplish.  It is a great children’s story and you can look for 3D printed objects in the book, like the table, candy canes, etc.
